MacTarnahan’s, another Portland based brewery, is one of the original Oregon craft breweries with over 25 years of operation and offers a consistently affordable (if somewhat limited) line of beers. In breaking from my early Spring cleaning of my winter releases, I’m cracking open a bottle of their Spring release, MacTarnahan's Spring Sling Shot Extra Pale Ale.
MacTarnahan’s Spring Sling Shot Extra Pale Ale poured a transparent yellow with mild carbonation and a thin, off-white head. The nose was mostly herby pine.
MacTarnahan’s Spring Sling Shot Extra Pale Ale was light but toasty on my tongue, coming across less hop-forward than the nose implied but balanced enough with the grains to never be less than refreshing. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much going on beyond this other than an almost astringent finish.
MacTarnahan’s Spring Sling Shot Extra Pale Ale doesn’t reach greatness, but for the price and limited availability it earns its place in the fridge to follow up richer brews.
